Last Major with two Polish teams - DreamHack Cluj-Napoca 2015
The tournament in Romania certainly was the end of a certain era of the global CS. DreamHack, however, opened several other gates - since then the role of American teams in major tournaments has grown, and the idea of the European dream team - G2 flourished. Only Havard "rain" Nygaard remained of the current composition in FaZe.
The major was also interesting from the perspective of a Polish fan, because we had two representatives in Romania. At Virtus.pro, of course, greater hopes were placed, & nbsp; but Vexed was not without a chance. Vexed, which is the old eBettle line-up that played at ESL One Cologne 2015. Although Furlan, GruBy, rallen, Hyper and peet gathered severe whips in Germany, they appeared on the next Major and you could expect from them that with the necessary they will present themselves better with experience. And indeed the Poles played a lot better - they lost on Fnatic only 10:16, and with C9 already 13:16. Nevertheless, it meant dropping out of the tournament in the group stage. How did Virtus.pro manage? The Poles had a hard start - only after extra time they won with Team Liquid (one hundred times worse than now), and for the exit from the group they fought with Titan with shox and ScreaM in the composition. VP won 16: 7 and moved on. In the 1/4 final, it met G2 - a team composed of very skill players, but not having a home on the European stage. Of course, we're talking about Maikelele, Fox, Rainie, Dennis and Jkaemie. Particularly annoying for Polish fans was the last one, which presented itself to a wider public in the best possible way - it even carrowed its team. G2 beat Poles 2: 0 and caused quite a big surprise. In retrospect, we look at these failures even worse, we were at a time when it seemed that Polish CS was going in the right direction, developing. Four years later, we don't even have one team on Major. Eloquent.
It is worth stopping at G2 at this time. It was undoubtedly the black horse of the tournament. The original idea for the team, mixing many nations, combining skill skills brought an unexpected effect in the form of an excellent and spectacular game. Many fans then fell in love with the team, which was formed a few months earlier under the patronage of Team Kinguin. At the time of DreamHack Cluj-Napoca, however, she already played under the flag of G2 (which just a moment ago got rid of the omen of the Polish composition). For sold Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom to the team was added Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad, who delighted everyone with his game. These were the beginnings of the team we know today as FaZe. The American organization 3 months after DreamHack Cluj-Napoca employed the entire G2 squad and modified it to this day. Currently only rain is left in the band. Let's stop with the Norwegian for a moment and watch his one of the most beautiful solo actions - 1vs5 from EnVyUs on DreamHack Cluj-Napoca.
What else will we remember the Romanian tournament? Of course for the winners, i.e. EnVyUs. The French, after losing in the ESL One Cologne 2015 final, were the big favorites of DreamHack Cluj-Napoca. Happy and company did not have an easy path, however, because fate connected them with Fnatic in the quarter finals. The Swedes were then considered the best team in the world, which won all games. And although EnVy lost the first map, Fnatic didn't give a chance on the next two. In the semi-final the French had to face the black horse of the tournament - G2. The European mix put up a lot of resistance - it won the first map, then led to three extra times. However, EnVy once again escaped from the ax and with the result 2: 1 entered the final, where Natus Vincere was waiting. The Ukrainian-Russian squad sharpened their teeth for the triumph in the final, after all, they never won Major (until today by the way). However, the last match of the tournament went very fast and EnVyUs beat their rivals 2-0 without major obstacles. MVP of the tournament was Kenny "KennyS" Schrub, which was then a huge hype. Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer also enjoyed comparable popularity, who a few weeks later presented his spectacular action on a desert eagle banana. However, it was the last such a big triumph of the French team. EnVyUs was still hot at the moment, won by WESG 2016, but the French team has never come close to this level of play at Major.
At this point it is also worth mentioning Luminosity Gaming - a Brazilian team that harmoniously developed on the side of the global CS scene. It was an era in which European teams dominated - seven out of eight teams in play-offs came from the Old Continent (NaVi is the CIS region, but Ukraine and Russia can be hooked up to European CS). The "freak" were Brazilians from Luminosity, who were paving the way for other bands from both Americas. Three other teams from the New Continent - CLG, Cloud9 and Team Liquid have also appeared on DreamHack. They were all whip boys, and the highest hopes were in C9. DreamHack Cluj-Napoca, however, is the last moment when teams from the Western Hemisphere have played a marginal role in the most important tournaments in CS. The next Major - MLG Columbus - is a completely different story that you'll read about tomorrow.
