From Milani to Marconcini: 103 blues competing between Leibniz and Cluj Napoca
Cluj Napoca and Leibnitz are the two destinations that engage Italian judokas over the weekend with international activity. And if in Leibnitz it is one of the most demanding junior European Cups to which the Italian team does not intend to miss, in Romania it is a Continental Open which with 389 registered athletes and 31 nations represented will involve numerous top scorers to collect useful points for the Olympic qualification. Italy participates with 40 athletes, but there are also Francesca Milani and Matteo Marconcini, two of our top athletes who return to the race after difficult periods. "After about 6 months, I finally return to fight and I can't wait! - said Francesca Milani, No. 1 blue in the 48 kg - My goal is not this race, but the Europeans at the end of June, therefore I intend to use it best to find those sensations that only by climbing on a race tatami you can try. Having said that I will not go there just to try, but I will do my best to give my best and feel how I felt before the injury, with the thought turned to next competition: the European Games! ".
As for Matteo Marconcini instead, it is a real debut, as it will compete for the first time in the 90 kg. "After the Absolutes, for the boys of the Carabinieri sports group - said Luigi Guido, head of the Carabinieri and the national technical direction - this is the first competitive event to evaluate progress and international competitiveness, as well as acquire further data in view of the Grand Prix in July, in which some of them will be engaged. The condition is good and the boys are all extremely motivated, ready to prove their worth. Marconcini deserves a separate speech, who faced a start to the season in good physical condition and techniques, which however he was unable to express in the two Grand Slam and Grand Prix competitions in which he participated, thanks to a weight management that began to influence the athlete's mood and his spirit, notoriously a warrior of the tatami. We then decided, in agreement with the CC staff and with the technical direction, to start a new adventure in the superior category d and the 90 kg. The boy trained hard, always with a smile and with the pleasure of doing judo, and personally I already consider this wonderful news. We decided to start the journey with a European Open, even if DT Murakami would have preferred to evaluate the competitiveness in the new category directly at the Budapest Grand Prix. Matteo strongly wanted to get involved immediately, playing his natural role as a point of reference for the Carabinieri Sports Center, facing this trip with his club that he always feels particularly close to. The goal is to do a competitiveness test in the new category, and the only thing we said to ourselves is to have fun. We will do our best to have as much fun as possible. "Between Leibnitz, where 63 Italian athletes are registered and Cluj Napoca with his 40, there are 103 blue judokas in the race. Everyone, as Francesca Milani said, can't wait to fight.
