For five years, the Someș Delivery event has been proposing to the people of Cluj to discover a different Someș than the one they know: arranged for people and animated by events that highlight its shores. Every year, a section is analyzed as a natural potential, but also to discover possible ways of arrangement and use, through temporary installations. This year, the 5th edition took place on the two banks adjacent to the Sun Pool, upstream of the Grigorescu Bridge.
“This year's Someș Delivery weekend was to take place on another segment of Someș, in the area of the Porcelain Bridge. In the renderings made public by the Cluj-Napoca City Hall on April 9, it can be seen that on both banks there is green space and a large number of trees, in accordance with the initial state of the area. During a visit made by us on the site, on October 6, we found that both banks, both to the left and to the right of the bridge, were dammed / cemented, and the trees were cut down ", say the ecologists.
The organizers of Someș Delivery claim that "the works to dam the banks, in addition to the rehabilitation works of the Porcelain Bridge, damage both the natural ecosystem of Someș and the quality of life of the nearby inhabitants".
“The embankment of the banks required the deforestation of the trees in the targeted area and the permanent cementation of the area, which will not allow the regeneration of the green area, therefore reducing the green space per capita. Any project that could affect the green areas in Cluj-Napoca, both on land and near water, needs the prior consultation of specialists: urban planners, architects, landscapers, environmental and biodiversity specialists, associations that operate in the area of the natural environment in the city, of the responsible administrations, of the citizens of Cluj and of the inhabitants of the intervention areas! ”, they also say.500 meters cleaned from Someș, another 6 kilometers are needed
Last weekend, environmentalists walked along the river from the dam in Floresti to Cluj, on foot, by bike or by boat.
“Our stake was to discover the potential of Someș here and to see how much its banks were cleaned according to the promise of Floresti City Hall. Almost 500 meters were cleaned. It's a first step! There are still 6 km! The banks have the potential to be crossed by a promenade along the river, on the left (northern) bank. And right after the dam is a large space that we can imagine as the future park of Floresti, if the legal situation allows or the mayor's office has a good policy in purchasing it.
We remind you that at the end of the 5th edition of Someș Delivery, against the background of sanitation campaigns and outrage among civil society regarding the unhealthy state of the river banks, the organizers initiated a petition requesting the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc and Horia Șulea, the mayor of Floresti commune, to urgently sanitize the banks of Someș and to find solutions to prevent the re-storage of garbage that threatens the health of Cluj and Floresti.
The employees of the Someș-Tisa Water Basin Administration carried out a control on July 15, and following the verifications, deposits of household and construction waste were found both on the right bank of the Someșul Mic river (downstream of the pedestrian bridge in the Floresti II Dam area) , as well as on the left bank. Floresti City Hall was fined 75,000 lei for not cleaning Someşul Mic and not checking the sanitation of the watercourse.€ 1.5 million for two lanes at Porcelain Bridge
In April, the Porcelain Bridge was closed to traffic for modernization works. The total value of the investment is 7.16 million lei with VAT included. According to the Cluj-Napoca City Hall, the bridge will have two lanes, will have bicycle lanes, will have pedestrian space and will be overlit. The works are estimated to take 12 months.NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIPTION
