After 2 years of absence, Julio Baptista is announced as reinforcement of Cluj, from Romania
Midfielder Julio Baptista has not yet given up his football career. This Saturday, he agreed with Cluj, from Romania's first division. The 36-year-old has been without a club since he left Orlando City in 2016.
The Romanian team announced the news on social media and did not inform the contract period. The decision, however, is not surprising, as Julio Baptista was already scheduled for his career off the pitch.
He was at the Russian World Cup as one of FIFA's ambassadors. Last season, he worked promoting the Spanish Championship around the world. In June, Julio Baptista completed the course at Uefa to become a coach.
Julio Baptista started his career at São Paulo in 2000. Three years later he was negotiated with Sevilla, where he served for two seasons. Afterwards, he played for Real Madrid, Arsenal and Roma, when he lived the peak of his career. In 2011 he went to Malaga. Two years later he returned to Brazil and worked for Cruzeiro. In 2016 he agreed with Orlando City, where he stayed for only one season.
In the Brazilian team, the midfielder participated in 47 games and scored five goals. He participated in the conquests of the Confederations Cup, in 2005 and in 2009, and also of the Copa America, in 2004 and in 2007.
